Heavy Equipment Program
Excavator operator training.
Get the skills and confidence you need to operate heavy equipment safely and professionally.
10 comprehensive sessions
You can start with $500 down and pay as you train.
Professional instruction focused on safety, excavator operation and job-site readiness — hands-on from the first session.
How the classes are paid
No lump sum and no finance company. You pay as you train, and every class is booked around your week.
1st class
Your down payment. It secures your place on the schedule and covers your first session.
2nd class
Your second session, paid as you go.
3rd – 10th class
Eight more classes, paid as you go, until all ten are done.
Extra classes
Need more seat time after the tenth class? Book extra sessions as required.
Inside every course
Training sessions include
Ten hands-on sessions that take you from the first walk-around to precision trenching and grading — the skills, confidence and professional discipline a real job site expects.
Safety Regulations
Safe before you're fast
Workplace safety standards including OSHA guidelines and site-specific rules, proper PPE use, excavator swing radius awareness, and emergency procedures.
Machine Components & Systems
Know the machine before you start it
The boom, stick, bucket, cab, tracks, hydraulic system and engine — what each part does and how the systems work together.
Site Assessment & Planning
Read the ground before you dig it
Interpret blueprints and site plans, spot hazards like overhead power lines, underground utilities, unstable soil and uneven terrain, and plan work zones to prevent accidents.
Communication
Work as one crew
Coordinate with ground crews using standardized hand signals and two-way radios, so everyone on site knows what the machine is doing next.
Basic Maintenance
Catch problems before they cost you
Routine maintenance and pre-operation inspections — fluid checks, leak detection, track tension inspection and proper greasing procedures.
Controls & Machine Handling
Hands, feet and feel
Mastery of joysticks, levers and foot pedals on both ISO and SAE control patterns, plus safe and efficient use of the drive controls for forward, reverse and track-based steering.
Machine Movement & Maneuvering
Smooth beats fast
Smooth, controlled movement in open areas, then maneuvering safely in confined spaces, on uneven terrain and on slopes while keeping the machine stable.
Digging & Excavation
Precision trenching to grade
Proper machine positioning for balance and stability, precision trenching to specified depths and grades, and adjusting your digging technique for sand, clay and compacted soil.
Material Handling
Lift, load, move, place
Safe lifting, loading, transporting and unloading of materials within the machine's load capacity, keeping balance and control through every transfer.
Grading & Backfilling
Leave the site better than you found it
Creating smooth, level surfaces with the bucket or blade, and efficient backfilling techniques to restore trenches and work areas.
The operator you become
The machine skills are only half of it. Over the ten sessions you also build the habits employers look for:
- ✓Hand-eye and foot coordination for precise control
- ✓Situational awareness of personnel, obstacles and changing site conditions
- ✓Patience and focus for smooth operation over long stretches
- ✓Problem-solving when the unexpected happens
- ✓Physical stamina for all weather and long shifts
Requirements
- 01Must have a driver's license
- 02Must complete the course within 3 months
Finish inside three months
If the course runs past three months from your start date, you re-apply and the $500 down payment is paid again. The rule keeps people moving and keeps places from sitting idle.
Most students finish in two
Ten classes is realistic in about two months. The third month is your buffer for illness, weather, or a busy week at work.
