Inside every course

Training sessions include

Ten hands-on sessions that take you from the first walk-around to grading, slopes and attachments — the skills, confidence and professional discipline a real job site expects.

✓

PPE & Pre-Operation Inspection

Safe before you're fast

Proper PPE — hard hat, safety glasses, high-vis apparel, safety footwear and gloves — then a full walk-around before every use: engine oil, coolant and hydraulic fluid levels, tires or tracks, leaks and damage, and every warning light and alarm.

✓

Entering & Exiting the Cab

Three points of contact, every time

Mount and dismount using the three-point contact method. Control levers are never handholds.

✓

Operator Restraints

Belted in before anything moves

Fasten the seat belt and lower the safety bar or control pod before operation. The machine's safety interlock stops loader functions if restraints aren't properly engaged — you'll learn why that matters.

✓

Situational Awareness

Eyes everywhere

Constant awareness of surroundings and blind spots, using mirrors or a spotter when visibility is limited. Never work beneath a raised bucket, and never let unauthorized personnel near a running machine.

✓

Safe Operating Practices

Low loads, flat attachments

Carry loads low to the ground, never overload the bucket, and always lower attachments flat and shut off the engine before leaving the cab.

✓

Control Patterns

Standard, H-pattern and ISO

Get fully familiar with the control configuration of the machine in front of you — Standard (hand-and-foot), H-pattern, and ISO joystick systems.

✓

Driving & Steering Controls

Forward, reverse, turn

How joysticks or steering levers control forward movement, reverse travel and turning — smooth and predictable before quick.

✓

Boom & Bucket Controls

Scoop, carry, dump

Proper operation of the lift arms and bucket tilt for scooping, carrying and dumping materials with control.

✓

Gauges, Throttle & Parking Brake

Read the dash, mind the machine

Monitor fuel, engine temperature, parking brake status and hydraulic warnings. Use hand or foot throttles at low to moderate speeds for smooth operation, and engage the parking brake correctly for safe shutdown.

✓

Turning Techniques

The skid-steer signature move

Master skid-steer turning by independently controlling wheel or track speed for smooth, precise directional changes.

✓

Scooping & Dumping

Work the pile like a pro

Approach material piles correctly, scoop efficiently, back away safely, transport loads at the proper height, and dump in a controlled manner.

✓

Grading & Leveling

Smooth surfaces in reverse

Use the back edge of the bucket while reversing to achieve consistent grades and smooth surfaces.

✓

Operating on Slopes

Heavy end uphill

Safe travel on slopes — straight up and down, with the heavy end positioned uphill to reduce rollover risk.

✓

Attachment Operation

One machine, many jobs

Safe attachment and detachment of auxiliary tools — forks, augers, sweepers and more — plus proper use of the auxiliary hydraulic controls.

Requirements

  • 01Must have a driver's license
  • 02Must complete the course within 3 months

Finish inside three months

If the course runs past three months from your start date, you re-apply and the $500 down payment is paid again. The rule keeps people moving and keeps places from sitting idle.

Most students finish in two

Ten classes is realistic in about two months. The third month is your buffer for illness, weather, or a busy week at work.
